Reducing carbon emissions from homes

Most of us still have scope to reduce carbon emissions from our homes by purchasing 100% renewable electricity, installing solar PV or heat pumps, or improving our insulation. For future proof new houses we need Building Standards which ensure buildings are Passivhaus equivalent. A great local example of a Passivhaus is described in this new monthly environment column from The Stray Ferret. Ideas and information are available from the Energy Saving Trust and The Carbon Trust. Several local companies supply solar PV and heat pumps, including our HDCCC Energy Sub-group members Energy Oasis Ltd and Yorkshire Energy Systems Ltd.
